Frequently asked questions

How are these word lists organised?

By word length and by letter position. You can browse 4, 5, 6 and 7-letter words by the letter they start with or end with, and 5 and 7-letter words by their middle letter. Wordle lists are limited to five-letter words that the game accepts.

Which dictionary are these lists built from?

Every list is drawn from our combined dictionary of roughly 270,000 words, merged from the TWL, SOWPODS and ENABLE lexicons and last compiled on 2026-07-28. Each word page states which of the three lists contain that word.

Can I use these lists for Scrabble and Words With Friends?

Yes. Every word shows its Scrabble and Words With Friends score, calculated from each game’s official tile values without board multipliers. Bear in mind that the two games use different lexicons, so a word valid in one may be rejected by the other.

How these lists are built

Every list is generated from the same indexed dictionary, using the signature and letter-count method described on our methodology page. The lexicons themselves, and the differences between them, are documented on the dictionaries page.
